South
Carolina's capital region is one of the few areas in the world fortunate
enough to have not one, but three rivers. Cutting through the heart of the
Midlands, the Saluda and the Broad rivers meet in
a rush of rapids, and merge together to form the tranquil Congaree. The
beauty along the banks of these rivers is astonishing. Fish leap into the
air on a hot summer day, deer graze at the rivers' shores. Egrets perch on
moss-covered rocks and eagles soar overhead, in hunt of their prey. Spanish
moss cascades from old hardwood trees, whose branches delicately outline the
waters' almost untouchable edges.

The
River Alliance's mission is to connect people to the rivers, making them
accessible and yet protected, and bring the rivers back into the daily lives
of area residents and visitors.
