Soon the
southern point of the Cayce Riverwalk will be approximately one half mile
farther down the Congaree River thanks to the ongoing commitment of the City of
Cayce and its partner, the River Alliance.
This new
extension of the Cayce Riverwalk will take walkers, runners, bikers, families
with baby carriages and any other resident of the Midlands who wish to explore
the rivers wonders along some new and interesting sites.
The new
Cayce Riverwalk Extension will continue beyond the existing boardwalk and will
end at the Riverland Park subdivision. The $1 million financing for the Cayce
Riverwalk extension is made possible by a tax increment financing district that
has been in place in the city for some time. The first phase of the park
opened in November 2006 and is seeing visitors daily. The second phase ribbon
cutting will take place on December 7th 2007. The park is open from dawn until
dusk.
In an effort to provide greater community benefit, the City of Cayce will in the
future add a 1910 style Lockkeepers house with restroom facilities, a police
substation which will include additional meeting space for public use, as well
as additional picnic tables and improvements around the locks themselves.
